What Is Forensic Decontamination?
Forensic decontamination is a thorough, verifiable clean of the entire data centre environment, not just the visible surfaces. It targets the data hall, sub-floor void, ceiling void, racks and equipment, removing dust, particulates and contaminants that routine housekeeping leaves behind.
The process uses anti-static, residue-free methods throughout, so the clean itself introduces no new contamination risk to sensitive electronics.
Why It Matters
Accumulated dust and particulates reduce cooling efficiency, clog filters, and increase the risk of electrostatic discharge and short circuits. Contamination builds gradually, and its effect on equipment reliability is easy to miss until a failure occurs.
Forensic decontamination is especially important after construction, cabling work, or equipment moves, when disturbed dust and debris can be drawn into live systems via the cooling airflow.
Where We Clean
Our forensic decontamination covers every part of the facility where contaminants collect:

- Sub-floor voids — cabling, cooling infrastructure and structural surfaces beneath raised floor tiles.
- Ceiling voids — above suspended ceilings and around air handling equipment.

Our Cleanliness Standard
We clean to ISO 14644 cleanliness levels, the international standard for classifying particle contamination in controlled environments. Most data centres are cleaned and verified to ISO Class 8, the level widely recommended for IT environments, with cleanliness confirmed by particle count testing before and after treatment.
Approach and Methodology
DCS carries out forensic decontamination using anti-static, residue-free cleaning methods and HEPA-filtered equipment suited to sensitive electronic environments. We begin with a site assessment and baseline particle count, then clean methodically through the sub-floor, data hall, racks, equipment and ceiling void, working around live operations to minimise disruption.
On completion, we carry out verification particle counts and provide a report confirming the cleanliness level achieved.
